While many people used powered mobility products on a daily basis at the highest levels in recent
history. After years of manual mobility people are more than pleased to enjoy the luxury and ease of a
nice powered wheelchair or mobility scooter.
Those who enjoy powered mobility know or should know that these are machines with batteries that
will, at some point, malfunction. We sit and take service calls from customers all across the Country
about dead batteries, malfunction motors, unresponsive joysticks and bad or deteriorating transaxles.
Almost anything can be repaired or have parts replaced to get the customer mobile again. Sometimes
the repair is resolved with a simple service call. Sometime the malfunction requires a replacement part
from a Manufacturer which could be a few thousand miles away. Between holidays, weekends and the
busy technician who has the part but cannot get out to put it on the customer power chair or scooter,
the customer suffers. This is an avoidable event.
No matter the cause, the delay in getting the part and getting it installed is an unfortunate fact of life.
We hear truly heart wrenching stories of customers being stuck in a bed or recliner chair because the
mobility device does not work. That suffering is real. We always recommend that people who depend on
electrical mobility devices think ahead and buy a very inexpensive manual wheelchair, new or used. You
should have something for even that one time you have dead batteries, a bad motor, a bad control
module or joystick so you will not be stuck, helpless while you look at your chair or scooter sitting in the
